Allen Blog- Jerseyville- Thomas Aquinas Allen - a WWII Veteran





Sergeant Thomas Aquinas "Ken" Allen

Thomas Aquinas Allen was born August 25, 1909, the fourth child of Thomas Allen and Nellie Quinn. He enlisted in the army on July 20, 1942, when he was 32 years old. He trained in radio school and was stationed for a time in San Francisco. He was able to return home one year for a Thanksgiving visit.





On October 31, 1943, he sent a telegram home to his mother and family from Australia.



He was also able to have a leave in N.Y.C. and visited his youngest sister, Pauline.


He was released from the army on October 1, 1945, and continued working the family farm until his retirement, when he moved to Jerseyville. Thomas Aquinas Allen, known affectionately as "Ken," died on May 2, 1986, and was buried in Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.
